If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Where can I find shipping containers for rent near me?” you may not have heard about the legendary Louis Eagle. Louis Eagle is the president of The Eagle Leasing Co., the largest trailer and container leasing company in the Northeast.
With over 88 acres of land across four locations, more than 15,000 units, and a customer base both industrial and residential, it’s easy to be impressed by this storage container business.
But The Eagle Leasing Co. wasn’t always successful. Like most businesses, Eagle Leasing had to start from the ground up. But luckily, success runs in the Eagle family.
Eagle Leasing: From The Beginning
Irving Eagle, Louis Eagle’s father, first came to the U.S. from Vilnius, Russia in 1909. He took a job with the country’s largest trailer manufacturer Strick Solid Tire Company in Philadelphia after serving in the Navy in World War I.
Over the years, the Eagle family became more involved in the trailer industry. By the 1960s, Irving and his three sons Louis, Alvin, and Morty all sold trailers together. Eventually, Louis and his father formed their own small business in 1967 and The Eagle Leasing Co. was born in Orange, CT.
From Small Shop to Big Distribution Center
When they were first starting out, Louis Eagle started the company’s first direct mail campaign by hand. He used postcards with pictures of the company’s trailers and sent them by mail using the Yellow Pages. In no time at all, Eagle Leasing had up to 100 customers.
While Louis sold trailers, his brothers took trailers on trade and worked out of Massachusetts.
Now, the company is run in both Massachusetts and Connecticut with 135 employees and 14,000 pieces of equipment. They also run three full-time repair shops.
According to Louis, one of the keys to the company’s success is being so hands-on with their products, services, and customers. By solving problems as they came up and knowing the industry so well, the company was able to flourish within 10 years.
